News: Forgotten Hope Update - 9/11/06 |
 |
| The Forgotten Hope news team are back in action with a new update showcasing a few new renders, as well as news regarding the World at War tournament. For more information on the WaW tournament, check out the article below.
Before starting the showcase we have the honor to introduce 3 new Forgotten Hope 2 developers. We would like to welcome Arisaka joining the modeling department, Mr. Cheese responsible for mapping and zapfcreations who will give our coders a hand.
We hope that our new developers will have stuff ready for showcase soon. But until then, we have an especially rich update for you today. The first item in today's news is the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) Chevrolet 30cwt truck by Rad. The LRDG was an unorthodox British unit first created in 1940 to perform reconnaissance far behind enemy lines. Formed initially by a few relatively junior officers, and a small group of mainly New Zealander volunteers, the LRDG had to scrounge much of its equipment from the leavings of the rest of the Army
The distinctive LRDG Chevy’s became emblematic of the LRDG’s ability to adopt any useful equipment were into their unusual arsenal. The very first of these were actually bought from a local Chevrolet dealer, some were borrowed from the Egyptian Army, and relatively few were acquired through regular army channels. All of these (like all later Chevys) had their cabs removed and were equipped with large sand tires. The version we present today is armed with Vickers and Lewis machine guns which will surely make Axis infantrymen go diving for cover.
Of course the truck itself is not the only new item. The LRDG’s transports were also fighting vehicles, which sported a variety of the best weapons available. First we have the water-cooled .303 inch (7.7 mm) machine gun produced by the Vickers company, originally for the British Army of WWI. The machine gun typically required a six to eight-man team to operate: one to fire, one to feed the ammunition, and the rest to help carry the weapon, its ammunition and spare parts. Although heavy it was extremely reliable, so long as there was enough water to cool it. The Vickers was modeled by The Jackal and Rad. and skinned by Rad.
Also visible on the Chevy Second is the Lewis .303 Mk. I, Model 1915. Although semi obsolete by the second world war, it was too heavy (although far lighter then the Vickers), to be useful as a light machine gun, and had been largely replaced in that role by the Bren. It was mainly used mounted on vehicles, especially aircraft, but found a new home with the LRDG who respected its ruggedness and reliability. The Lewis was modeled and skinned by Rad.
Last but not least we present the Webley Mk VI revolver made by McGibs. This 6 round .455 revolver is yet another weapon of World War 1 vintage. By World War II, it had been officially replaced by the Enfield No 2 Mk I revolver, but due to shortages, many Webleys continued in service. The hard-hitting Webleys were especially popular with the New Zealand troops that formed the nucleus of the early LRDG. It was also manufactured by RSAF Enfield under the designation Pistol, Revolver, Webley, No 1 Mk VI.

News: Forgotten Hope Update - 25/9/06 |
 |
| Another late update today for you all. Forgotten Hope are showing off their flak38 along with renders of the British Cruiser tank today
Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. We would like to start the update with a download suggestion for Forgotten Hope 0.7 players. Forgotten Honor presents a new map pack for Forgotten Hope for Battlefield 1942(tm) featuring 6 maps. This should help shorten the wait for the upcoming Forgotten Hope 2. For more information on their tournament you should give their page a visit! You can download the map pack here.
The first item for today's news is the Flugabwehrkanone 38. It was modeled and skinned by Jodonnell. The Flak 38 was designed in 1939 as the successor to the Flak 30 and entered service in 1940. It quickly became the most common light anti-aircraft gun of the German armed forces. To enhance its mobility it could be either towed or mounted on a vehicle. The Sonderanhänger 52 and the Flakpanzer 38 (t) are only two examples. The following in-game screenshots feature the 1st person view, gunsight and wreck.
Next item for today is the Cruiser Mk VI tank, better known as the Crusader I and sometimes considered the most important British tank for the North African campaign. More than 5,300 were built in total and the early version saw action first in Operation Battleaxe. This version was modelled by Montoya and OMNI and skinned and normal mapped by AaronAsh. The improved late version with new sideskirts and mantlet was modelled by OMNI, skinned by AaronAsh and Lobo, normal mapped by AaronAsh and got the tracks from Jimbob and Montoya.

News: Forgotten Hope Update - 18/9/06 |
 |
| It's been on their site for a while, but here's another Forgotten Hope update for you guys. Showing off an ingame Stuka, as well as a single render of a bedford truck.
Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today close air support is considered vital for any mixed force operation. In World War II, however, the air forces of many countries were focused on strategic operations. But, at the beginning of the war, the Luftwaffe's force composition emphasized direct tactical support of the troops on the ground, rather than long-range strategic bombing.
No plane symbolized this emphasis better than the Sturzkampfflugzeug Junkers Ju 87, the "flying artillery" of the Wehrmacht. Although suffering from several defects, including a low top speed that made it vulnerable to enemy fighters, the Ju 87 (popularly known today as the "Stuka") excelled at pinpoint bombing of battlefield targets. During the early war period, when the Luftwaffe's fighters still dominated the skies, the Ju 87 was a devastatingly effective weapon. Later on, as control of the air slipped away, the JU 87's shortcomings became more obvious. Today we would like to present the first in-game screenshots of the Ju 87B2 dive-bomber bomber modeled by K96 and skinned by K96 and AceS.
Another vital supporting asset has always been transportation for supplies and reinforcements. The most common truck used by British forces was the Bedford 3 ton lorry. More than 70,000 3-ton Bedfords were produced between 1939 and 1945, in a variety of configurations and were used for all conceivable transport roles, including the movement of troops, horses, machine guns and supplies. The Bedford was originally modeled by Mange, updated and tweaked for BF2 by Lobo, skinned by AaronAsh and Jimbob and Lobo, normal mapped by Lobo and given a brand-new set of tires by Rad.

| The Forgotten Hope team continue their weekly updates today while showing off a bunch of screenshots of a barracks ingame, as well as the British Cruiser tank. Enjoy
Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we would like to welcome three more developers to the team. Digital_Assassin, IllicitFilms and Squirrelly. IllicitFilms is an experienced map and film maker, while Squirrelly is a talented maker of custom textures. We will show you some of their work in a future update, but we would like to kick off the image presentation with the first Forgotten Hope 2 item made by Digital_Assassin. With so many new devs, we needed to repurpose his civilian building as a barracks. It still needs a bit of sweeping out, and new furniture, but it comes along with a basement and a wonderful patio. Might be a nice place for an economy-class vacation, getting some rest after an exhausting firefight, or even a hideout for snipers.
Our next item for today is one of the most ugliest tanks ever conceived, yet has a mysterious boxy appeal. The British Cruiser Mk IVA (A13 Mk II) was equipped, like most cruiser tanks of the time, with an Ordnance QF 2-pounder and an 0.303 BESA machine gun. It served with the 7th Armored Division in the Western Desert between 1940 and 41, as well as seeing action in France and Greece. The Cruiser Mk IVA was originally manufactured by Nuffield, LMS, Leyland, and English Electric, but for Forgotten Hope2 modeled and skinned by Montoya.
That's all for today, but be sure to come back next week for another Forgotten Hope update. And don't forget to join us on IRC. Feel free to visit our public forums to discuss this update or other news.

News: Forgotten Hope Update - 23/8/06 |
 |
| The Forgotten Hope team have posted another weekly update today, showing off another render as well as some more shots of maps ingame. Enjoy.
Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. We would like to kick off our update without loosing too any words with the AEC Mk I Gun Carrier, known as the Deacon. It was an attempt to make the QF 6 pounder anti-tank gun into a self-propelled artillery piece. It was employed only during the North African Campaign. The main goal was to provide British troops with a mobile anti-tank weapon. Only 175 were built in total. The Deacon was modelled by ctz and Jimbob, who made also the skin and normalmapping. Manufacturer of the tires and provider of the tools was Rad. The belonging 6-pounder was created by AaronAsh and TheJackalx2k.
We would like to finish the update with a couple of statics and impression shots. On the 4 screenshots you can see a harbourhouse made by Toddel, an oiler wreck by Jimbob, Lobo and Mange and a PAK 38 ammobox from Toddel.
That's all for today, but be sure to come back next week for another Forgotten Hope update. And don't forget to join us on IRC. Feel free to visit our public forums to discuss this update or other news.

| As rumored, the patch has been set back up at least a day by last minute problems arising in the code.
EA announced the following in the EA UK forums: Due to some last minute changes the release of the 1.4 patch has been delayed. We do not anticipate this delay being a lengthy one, however we do not have a fixed date for release at this time. We will update you as soon as there is further information. Apologies to those who were expecting the patch today, however in order for this patch to succeed in the way it is intended a little extra time is being taken to ensure it is right. We understand that this is going to cause a significant amount of aggravation, however it is worth ensuring that the patch actually resolves as many issues as possible. So some additional time is being taken to ensure that this is the case. This last thing we want is a repeat of the 1.3 patch. Protagonist Community Manager EA Games Check out the forum post on the EAUK forums here. Another post on the Dutch BF2 community site indicates a 24 hour delay but it appears this is far from certain. Although the patch was announced to be released today (by EA Spain), it seems a small bug has been found and needs to be fixed before patch release. The release of patch 1.4 has been postponed 24 hours in order to allow more testing and the fix of this small bug. We will keep you up to date about this issue. Better a good and fixed patch than a hotfix release next week !
We'll update the forum topic with news as it comes in.
